The artist who influenced me most is the illustrator who illustrated a children’s book I borrowed from the library when I was five years old. His vivid imagination amazed me and the exquisite images left a very deep impression.
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” The words of Marcel Proust have become my motto. When I see trees and rocks the forms will inspire me to make sculptures. When I watch the sun go down, my eyes will spontaneously follow the light and shadows created by the spaces.
I am devoted to art. Art is in my blood and my soul. Art is my life! And that was the reason why I decided to come a long way to study in this completely unfamiliar land.
I like a really wide range of art. I am interested in building structures by using different materials, drawing and painting landscapes.
It is my dream to become an illustrator and writer of children’s books; I want to unfold my world before people’s eyes. I wish to share my dreams with people who don’t know me and also people who are close to me and I hope that my illustrations and stories could bring hope, dreams and excitement to other children as the books I read did when I was a child.
On the Foundation Art and Design course. In exploratory stage I had to develop my skills within a wide range of art and design activities and experiment with a variety of media to identify and interpret my own direction. Illustration is my preferred specialism within art, I wish to use the technique of printmaking, and so I chose Printmaking for my pathway area. In the pathway stage I have learnt to experiment and create ideas, to analyse and evaluate my works, to make sketchbooks, and I have learnt various skills in printmaking and bookbinding. In life drawing, I had to learn to create spaces using shadow and light. I’m learning the use of colour and composition through observational studies. In contextual studies, I have learnt to look at things in different ways and record what I have heard, seen, thought and felt and I have learnt about the stories behind art works.
I used to take more time than others to develop ideas in my work, but now I have learnt to write my thoughts in sketchbooks and organise them. I believe that what I have learnt now will be helpful to me in the future.
I would like to apply for the BA degree of Illustration to develop my skills and knowledge and also improve my English and creative writing. I’m a sociable person at school, at the place I stay, and like to spend time with my friends. I don’t really speak a lot because rather than talk about things, I prefer to start doing them. I am a dedicated person and I like to work independently. I like to visit museums, art studios and libraries in my free time. I also love reading books especially stories about history and ancient legends.
My plan in the future is to complete my studies at university then do an MA in Illustration of children’s books, and then go to other countries to expand my knowledge and experience. I would like to learn everything about art and I believe that I have got the talent and ability and enthusiasm for it. The experience I have obtained and the skills I have learned will help me to reach the goal I desire.
